New board of directors appointed to Film Corporation and Foundation Institute

October 18, 2024

Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, National Integration, Social Security, and Mass Media, Vijitha Herath, has called for the National Film Corporation to modernize and compete with private companies. He made these comments at a meeting on October 18, held at the Ministry of Mass Media Auditorium, where the new Boards of Directors for the National Film Corporation and the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute were appointed.

The minister highlighted past concerns about favoritism in film releases, urging the new Board to ensure fair practices moving forward. He noted the appointment of representatives from all communities—Sinhalese, Tamils, and Muslims—in the past and pointed out the need for Tamil cinema to establish itself as a viable industry in Sri Lanka.

Regarding the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, the minister emphasized that the new officials must make decisions to address past shortcomings.
